SHARNA ROLLE – Head of Apprenticeships

Sharna Rolle comes with 21 years’ experience working in an education, employment and skills setting, helping people make a positive impact in their lives. Having previously developed, coordinated and driven a successful apprenticeship programme at a leading housing developer, she possesses a broad understanding of apprenticeship standards and the levy structure. She also brings with her a wealth of project management skills acquired from her extensive experience in the construction industry.

GILL LOIS – Apprenticeship Business Lead | Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Advocate

Gill Lois is a key member of the Engineering Schools College at LDE, where she holds the role of Apprenticeship Business Lead. With a passion for fostering diversity and inclusion, Gill co-leads the college’s EDI initiatives. Her accomplishments include securing the Equaliteach EDI Gold Award and contributing to a successful Ofsted review visit.

As an expert in apprenticeships, Gill guides employers through the end-to-end process, from candidate selection to the EPA (End-Point Assessment). Her commitment ensures a seamless journey for both employers and apprentices.

FURNAZ AHMED – Deputy Head – Quality of Teaching

Furnaz is passionate about creating a culture of high-quality teaching and learning across the college. She introduced SSAT TEEP to enhance active learning and reimagine teaching pedagogy and has collaborated with examining bodies like AQA and City and Guilds, benefiting learners in the Design Faculty. Her industry partnerships with RIBA, Multiplex, and Bouygues has been pivotal in ensuring students receive valuable industry-led workshops.

YETUNDE BASHORUN – Subject Lead Built Environment

An accomplished Teacher of Technical Subjects with over 14 years of experience in London. Her impressive career includes roles such as 2nd in Charge of Design and Technology and E-learning Lead, where she utilised technology to enhance educational experiences. Yetunde’s dedication to student success is evident through her management of KS3 & KS4 Progress and Achievement. She holds a BSc in Product Design and completed a Graduate Teaching Program, with further professional growth demonstrated by earning the National Professional Qualification in Middle Leadership in 2022. Yetunde is a leader in integrating ICT with Design and Technology, showcasing her diverse expertise in education.

MIDIA EVE CHOUDHURY – Teacher of the Built Environment

Midia’s goal is to inspire the next generation of professionals with practical insights and a deep understanding of the built environment. She holds a City & Guilds Extended Diploma in Built Environment and BEng(Hons) in Civil Engineering, earned via the Level 6 apprenticeship route. For over five years, Midia has worked as a civil/structural engineer in various roles in the construction industry, specialised in reinforced concrete, with her largest project being on The Elephant and Castle Town Centre Redevelopment in Elephant Park. Midia is passionate about preparing students for the complexities of the construction world, aiming to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry practice.

BUDDHIKAH PREMARATNE – Teacher of Engineering

Buddhika is a highly qualified academic with a Master of Philosophy in Civil Engineering and is currently pursuing a PhD in Civil Engineering with a specialism in Weather Research and Forecasting. She has over 6 years of teaching experience and a background in planning, designing, and undertaking Civil Engineering projects. Her passion for learning and development drives her commitment to teaching and sharing her knowledge in the field.

Saad Farooq – Teacher of Built Environment

Saad is driven by a passion for innovation and excellence in the Built Environment. With a City & Guilds Extended Diploma in Built Environment and BSc in Architectural Technology, Saad is currently doing his MSc Construction Project Management, where he is focusing on the inclusion of Building Information Management in the construction industry. 

Throughout his academic journey, Saad has developed a keen eye for detail and strong problem-solving skills. His background includes collaborative projects and event facilitation, such as serving as MC in several events including The Houses of Parliament showcasing his ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.

Dedicated to shaping the future of the construction industry, Saad aims to empower students to approach the Built Environment with confidence and adaptability, preparing them to thrive in a rapidly evolving field.

Omar Safdari – Teacher of Technical Subjects

Omar is a dedicated educator and designer with a strong background in architecture and secondary education. He holds a First-Class Honours degree in Architecture from Ravensbourne University London and completed a PGCE in Secondary Education at the University of East London, achieving distinctions in both major academic submissions. His teaching approach combines practical design skills with theoretical understanding, placing a strong emphasis on sustainability, cultural relevance, and real-world application. Passionate about inclusive and engaging education, Omar develops curricula that connect students to the Built Environment through creativity, critical thinking, and community-focused projects.

He has worked closely with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) on educational initiatives and has had his architectural work published on Dezeen. His projects have been recognised with the Sustainability and the People’s Choice Award, reflecting his commitment to environmentally conscious and socially impactful design. Omar aims to inspire students to see the Built Environment not just as a career path, but as a powerful platform for innovation, problem-solving, and meaningful change.

Heman Amin – Teacher of Engineering & Design

Heman joined LDEUTC from industry, bringing experience as a Product Designer for several start-ups, including a 3D printing company and a fabrication lab, and co-founding a design business. Initially involved as an external employer, he later became a technician before qualifying as a teacher and assessor. Combining his background in Product Design with expertise in Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics, Heman now leads Mechanical Engineering at LDEUTC. He channels his passion for creativity into teaching by designing lessons that engage students and make learning enjoyable.
