Engineering Skills College is launching its new Level 3 Engineering Maintenance Technician apprenticeship this September, helping employers develop the technical skills needed across manufacturing, critical infrastructure and data centres.
Responding to employer demand
Engineering employers continue to face increasing pressure to recruit and retain skilled maintenance technicians. As experienced engineers retire and technology transforms the workplace, many organisations are looking beyond recruitment and investing in the long-term development of their workforce.
Those conversations have shaped the development of Engineering Skills College’s new Level 3 Engineering Maintenance Technician apprenticeship.
Rather than focusing on a single industry, the programme has been designed to support employers across a range of engineering environments, recognising that while every workplace is different, many of the core engineering principles remain the same.
One apprenticeship, multiple engineering sectors
The Engineering Maintenance Technician standard provides apprentices with a strong foundation in engineering principles, fault finding, maintenance techniques, health and safety and continuous improvement.
Engineering Skills College contextualises that learning around the industries our employers operate in every day. Whether apprentices are maintaining critical infrastructure, supporting advanced manufacturing or working within data centre environments, the programme reflects the equipment, systems and challenges they encounter in the workplace.
This approach allows employers to benefit from a nationally recognised apprenticeship while ensuring learning remains relevant to their sector.
Welcoming our first cohort
This September marks an exciting milestone for Engineering Skills College as we officially launch our new Level 3 Engineering Maintenance Technician apprenticeship.
Developed in response to growing employer demand, the programme will equip apprentices with the technical knowledge, practical skills and behaviours required for careers in engineering maintenance across sectors including data centres, manufacturing and critical infrastructure.
We are delighted to welcome our first EMT cohort and look forward to working alongside employers to develop the next generation of highly skilled engineering professionals.
