Apprentices Visit the Houses of Parliament – A Day of Insight and Inspiration

Our apprentices (London Design and Engineering UTC) had the privilege of visiting the iconic Houses of Parliament, where they were treated to an informative and engaging tour led by one of the venue’s specialist guides. The tour offered a deep dive into the rich tapestry of British history, from monarchs and milestones to the evolution of political processes.

This visit was not only a chance to explore one of the UK’s most historic buildings, but also a valuable opportunity to gain insight into the legislative systems that shape our society, and more specifically, the construction industry. We were fortunate to witness part of a planning discussion in the House of Lords, giving our apprentices a rare insider’s view of how laws are debated and passed, potentially influencing their future career paths.

A personal highlight was encountering “New Dawn”, the stunning contemporary artwork by Mary Branson, which commemorates the long and hard-fought campaign for women’s suffrage. It’s a powerful reminder of the ongoing journey toward equality. One of our female trainee engineers, Harman Kaur, a Senior Civil Engineering Apprentice from Skanska, is a shining example of the progress we are making—though there is still much more work to be done.
